The Webbs' Great American Adventure
July 8, 2010
San Diego has been awesome!!! It was a stark contrast with the weather we left behind in Tucson. We left Arizona with the temperatures in the 100s, and arrived in San Diego at a balmy 68 degrees. It was amazing to be on the west coast with 60 degree temperatures all day long. When you think of California you think of sunshine, but we've had overcast clouds the entire time we've been here. San Diego is so beautiful with it's architecture and culture that it overrode any adverse weather conditions we experienced.
I was really excited for the kids to experience the West Coast and the Pacific Ocean for the first time in their lives, although I think to them it was just another ocean, ha!
We went to the San Diego Zoo, which is considered the world's best zoo. It's no wonder, the place is huge with a lot of different exhibits. We got an extra little taste of California while we were there, a 5.9 earthquake hit while we were at the zoo. We thought it was part of one of the exhibits. The locals around us had no trouble knowing what it was though. Gale and Judy were back at the RV and said it shook really hard.
The next day we visited the Maritime Museum which had some really cool ships, new and old, including a U.S, and Soviet-era submarine. But the hit of the day was the USS Midway, a decommissioned air craft carrier that has been turned into an awesome museum. We didn't plan on seeing so many military museums on this trip, but with a bona fide military buff in our presence, and siblings who also think it's cool, the military museums have been a big hit with the kids.
At the end of the day, we made it over to Coronado Island and the kids got to play in a cold-Pacific Ocean. Before leaving California, we had to make a side-trip up to Anaheim to see West Coast Mickey at Disneyland.

66 degrees while we were there.

A family photo at the World Famous San Diego Zoo. There was a 5.9 Earthquake in the San Diego
area while we were at the zoo. We barely felt it and thought it was part of the attractions. At least
we got the full California experience while we were here!
