The Webbs' Great American Adventure
July 1-2, 2010

We left the Dallas/Fort Worth area yesterday and traveled to Midland, Texas. Midland is the childhood home of George W. Bush. Actually it has to be one of the only towns in America that can say it once had two future presidents as citizens. I'm certainly no W fan, but I am a fan of history. So I loved the fact that I could tell the kids the historical importance of where we were staying.

While we were in Midland, Nolan and I visited the Commemorative Air Force Museum. It was as good as any museum we have seen at the Smithsonian.

Once again, Hurricane Alex caught up with us last night, with flooding rains. The RV park we were staying in didn't have cable, so we were without cable. My poor, pitiful kids actually had to play board games to entertain themselves. It was truly sad to see them having to exist without electronic stimulation.

We left rainy Midland and made our way to El Paso and then on to Las Cruses, New Mexico. It was amazing how the landscape changed between the two destinations. By the time we reached El Paso, we were in the desert with big blue skies and fluffy clouds that never seemed to end. We took the kids to the Mexican boarder and experienced a good taste of Latino culture on the streets of downtown El Paso.

It amazes me each time that I'm in this part of the country that Kentucky, New England, and the great west are all part of the same country.
