The Deer of a Lifetime
November 22, 2009:
I've been hunting
for 13 years, and I have never taken a deer as big as this 11-point that I got this morning with my 12-year-old son Nolan, at the farm where my mom grew up Carter County. Heck, until this morning I had never even seen a deer this big in real life. It was unofficially scored at 167 3/8 inches.

It's funny how everything comes full circle. Nolan was barely a year old when shot my first deer in Powell County in 1998. Now, I'm teaching him how to hunt. He was with me this morning. As I was throwing the gun to my shoulder, and this deer was running away at full speed ahead, Nolan was behind me yelling, "It's a big buck Daddy, it's a big buck!"

My cousin Jeff McGlone is actually responsible for all of this. If it weren't for him I wouldn't even be a deer hunter. He got me started back in 1996 and showed me the ropes. We had a good weekend between us. He got a massive 8-pointer on Saturday morning, that had a longer body than Nolan (see photo below).

Now it's time to start rabbit hunting.
